Workshop on service innovation in municipal health and care services

Facing the challenge of an increasing amount of older citizens demanding health care, the Norwegian municipalities hoped to develop services that would prevent hospitalisation and the need for nursing homes.

A workshop was led by Designit, together with InnoMed and Induct Software to guide several municipalities in the process of creating user friendly and innovative services that enables and motivates people with disabilities and the elderly to live longer at home.

Around 40 participants working with health related services in various municipalities throughout Norway took part in the workshop which was based on the theme of ‘everyday rehabilitation’ and how to better facilitate the everyday lives of elderly and those with disabilities . Pia Kürstein Kjellberg (Senior Project Manager at the Danish Institute for Health Services Research) presented a project from Fredericia municipality in Denmark entitled ‘Lifelong living: ambient assisted living’, and Annie Feddersen, Service Designer at Designit Oslo, also presented the practice of innovation travels using the case from Aarhus University Hospital’s midwife centre

The attendees were then split into groups where they had discussions around the topics presented, including idea brainstorming, methods, sharing experiences etc., and then presented their findings to the whole group.

It was a day of motivational conversations, good networking and lots of coffee!

The workshop took place on January 25th 2012, and was hosted by Designit together with the municipality of Arendal, InnoMed and Induct Software. Induct Software is a fully integrated web-based service that supports custom design, management, and measurement of the entire open innovation process. They are producing the online innovation portal for the use of the Norwegian municipalities. InnoMed is a national competence network for need-driven innovation in the health care sector.
