Walking the HSE talk aboard Norway’s big ships

Heath, safety and environment protocol complicance is of vital importance on todays’ vessels. Designit will be playing an important role in determining how procedures can be made easier to follow and to comprehend.

Designit has teamed up with Cebrum and Innovation Norway to develop next generation systems for Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) protocol compliance aboard some of the most sophisticated ships working in the Norwegian off-shore industry. HSE systems ensure that procedures are followed and people make good decisions in some of the most potentially dangerous and stressful situations a sailor can face. With the Cebrum HSE Touch system, sailors and computers share the job: the sailor can focus on the task at hand, and the computer can find the right form and track decisions. In today’s post-Deepwater Horizon age, no one can afford to not take HSE seriously.

The team recently returned from an exciting research trip to interview sailors about their existing systems and discuss future concepts. Designit is bringing our expertise in creating compelling consumer experiences to this new environment, and hopefully breaking the barrier where proprietary software with cryptic interfaces is forced onto professional users who have little other option. While we can’t share too much more about this in-progress project, we are very excited by this huge opportunity to bring something truly innovative to some very hardworking sailors.
