Innovation Process: an oxymoron

Can innovation within pharma/healthcare be hindered by concentrating on processes rather than outcomes?

Working under the umbrella of ISBA, the ISBA Pharma/Healthcare Innovation Group is populated by a collection of ISBA members from the healthcare and pharmaceutical sector. They specialise in marketing procurement at national, regional or global level, and represent a wide spectrum of pharmaceutical companies.

The goal is to add value to the members’ respective organisations by:

  • Fully understanding the marketing procurement landscape and trends
  • Sharing best practice, knowledge and insight
  • Challenging the status quo in managing major categories of spend
  • Reviewing innovation in the supply base
  • Developing the skills to influence our marketing colleagues more effectively
  • Providing access to information resources

The group will meet regularly for information and inspiration, and it is on one of these days that Jim Dawton from Designit London will be discussing innovation process.

On October 19th Jim will share his views on why he believes innovation within pharma/healthcare can be hindered by concentrating on process rather than outcomes – and why he believes measuring ‘successful’ projects on how well they go, rather than their impact on the bottom line goes against what innovation exists for.

Jim will also inform a debate around how and why procurement can have a positive influence in this area and will explain why he believes marketing communications procurement should be prepared to pay for the unknown.
