Designit Oslo was on the winning teams in the ”Innovation for All” 24-hour design challenge that took place during this year’s European Business Conference on Inclusive Design.
Four teams of designers were challenged with the task of designing an inclusive product or service inspired by the needs of a differently abled person, yet, useful for mainstream consumers. The winners of the challenge were found based on a vote among all conference participants.
Two people from Designit Oslo took part: Astrid Sliwka, service design intern, was on the winning team for best idea; and Hans Christian Berge, service and industrial designer, was on the winning team for best presentation.
The winning idea, SoundCloud, is an innovative new service that makes browsing through pictures a richer and more meaningful experience by pairing sound clips and photographs. This allows users to explore their photo albums sorted by the similarities in sound clips rather than location, date or time.
The best-presented idea, Cupola, is a new type of cup with a self-sliding lid. The design of the cup helps prevent spilling as the lid opens and shuts automatically as you drink.
The conference was held earlier this year in Oslo and was organized by the Norwegian Design Council in collaboration with the Royal College of Art Helen Hamlyn Centre, London.
