TDC PLAY was hailed as a winning business model for future growth in the music industry in yesterday’s Børsen, Denmark’s leading business newspaper.
Developed by Designit in collaboration with TDC, the online music shop offers TDC customers access to unlimited music downloads. The leading Danish telecommunications provider was the first in the world to offer this service as part of its home broadband and mobile subscription.
According to Børsen, TDC PLAY offers new hope for a music industry, which for so long has struggled to get customers to pay for music. Not only does TDC PLAY secure a new sales channel, but it also provides a new way of meeting changing customer needs.
“The TDC model is very inspiring for other countries because it points towards a new era, where internet providers can no longer compete on price and speed alone, but need to offer attractive content in order to stay competitive,” Rob Wells from Universal Music told Børsen.
“The potential of such agreements is fantastic, as is the potential for growth in digital sales. I see no limits on growth now.”
Market analysts predict that 2009 will see music sales increasing for the first time in years. Digital sales increased by 25% in 2008, constituting 20% of global record sales.
