The Danish Architecture Centre (DAC) wanted to inspire politicians, architects, city planners and businesses worldwide to create more sustainable cities – and asked Designit to create a knowledge sharing platform for this fast-growing field.
We created the visual identity and web design for Sustainable Cities™ - a unique online database of best practice examples from around the world, launched at the 11th International Architecture Biennale in Venice.
Active community
DAC wanted Sustainable Cities™ to encourage knowledge sharing – so we applied web 2.0 technology to promote an active online community.
The pioneering database currently allows people to engage in dialogue about issues raised in the blog, vote on issues, comment on other people’s input and commit to a sustainable action.
Soon this active community will be extended to include a networking function - similar to Facebook or LinkedIn. This will allow users to create their own profile, state interests and upload articles. People will be able to collate and share knowledge while networking with experts worldwide.
Building blocks
Our Brand and Communication team created a striking visual identity – a triangle universe inspired by city grids – for the database. Created by, this universe can be seen throughout the web design – including in the logo. The team also collaborated in the naming process of Sustainable Cities™.
