Jyske Bank, headquartered in Denmark but with a global presence, came to Designit for help in creating a banking app, an app that reached 32,000 downloads in 2 months.
The next step
Designit has a long professional history with Jyske Bank, so when they came to us in 2010 for advice regarding strategy, usability, design and innovation for the Jyske Bank mobile banking app, it represented an obvious extension of our collaboration.
Jyske Bank is known for their informal approach to banking, having abandoned the traditional bank counter setup in 1998, in favour of an open environment, where customers and banking agents drink a cup of coffee together at a round table while they discuss business.
Jyske Bank wanted a banking app that would reflect this informal yet professional stance, and that would represent a full digital extension of their brand, while keeping a firm distance to their online banking. The aim wasn’t to simply convert their online banking to a mobile platform, but rather to make full use of the native mobile possibilities, in a distinct Jyske Bank design.
Customer focus
The priorities for the app were features that would make sense to people on the go, and that could be used quickly, and easily. The focus was on usability, design, to stand out from other mobile banking apps, and of course their current and future customers.
Jyske Bank even opened a debate on their website about the app, which gathered approximately 192 comments and suggestions. On a dedicated page on their website, they asked their customers what they wanted from a banking app, what they would use the most and for any other feedback regarding the app.
Collaboration on another level
The collaboration between Designit and Jyske Bank was an integrated and iterative process. Jyske Bank has some highly skilled and enthusiastic employees, who contributed to the project, and who were a great asset to the final outcome. The project team worked both at Designit and Jyske Bank premises to make sure that the project was tackled from both bases and influenced to an equal extent from both environments.

700 new customer applications & 32,000 downloads
Launched in three phases, the first version went on the App Store and Android Market on March 1st, the second followed on April 26th with the addition of mobile payments, and the third went live on June 7th, with the ability to trade stocks and shares.
The result of the collaboration was superb design, graphics and icons, and a smooth-running mobile banking app that maintained the Jyske Bank spirit and brand, yet represented an entirely new brand extension.
The app hit the App Store and Android Market on March 1st and just 24 hours later, it was number 4 on the free download chart.
After 2 months, the app had 24,000 users (being used 5–7 times more often than net banking), 32,000 downloads, not a single call to the helpdesk, had an average of 5 stars in the App Store, and had resulted in 700 new customer applications directly via the app.
